Kennywood in West Mifflin, Pa., is the closest big amusement park to the Mahoning Valley, and its Halloween event, Phantom Fall Fest, wraps up on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026. This year there's a new reason to go on a Saturday night.
- Ends: Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026.
- New in 2026: The first-ever Phantom Fall Fest Drone Show, Saturday, Oct. 24, at 10:15 p.m.
- Tickets: On Oct. 22, Kennywood was advertising one-day Phantom Fall Fest tickets "as low as $37.49" online, up to 50% off. Prices vary by date.
- Drive from Youngstown: About 76 miles, roughly 1 hour 45 minutes.
The drone show
Kennywood describes it as a "special, spooky rendition" of its drone show, with new designs of park staples: rides, characters and haunts. It's scheduled for 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, so plan to stay late and leave the park after the show.
Play all day, fright all night
Kennywood's tagline for the event sums it up. Daytime brings the regular park with a fall theme. Kennywood says it has eight roller coasters, including The Phantom's Revenge, which it calls the "#1 coaster in the country." At night come the haunts. Kennywood sells Speedy Pass, a virtual queue you can use on participating rides and haunts.
Tips from the Valley
- Route: Depending on the route your map app picks, part of the drive may be on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, which is tolled, so have an E-ZPass or expect toll-by-plate billing.
- Buy online ahead of time. The advertised discounts are for online purchases, and prices vary by date.
- Thinking about 2027? Kennywood says a 2027 Gold or Platinum season pass includes the rest of Phantom Fall Fest and this year's Holiday Lights free.
What's next at Kennywood
After Halloween the park changes over to Holiday Lights, opening Nov. 13. See our Holiday Lights 2026 guide.
